Hey there, hi there, ho there!! Sasha Slaughter here with you for yet another week of pre-Halloween socks rocking awesomeness! Since we're on the subject of Halloween, I'll be talking about zombies today...ooooh!!
More specifically, I'll be talking about the AMC series, “The Walking Dead.” If you haven't seen this series, you absolutely should!!! “The Walking Dead” debuted on AMC on October 31, 2010. And the show itself is actually based on the ongoing comic book series “The Walking Dead” created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard. The pilot of “The Walking Dead” received 5.4 million viewers, making it the most watched premiere episode of any AMC television series. After reading that you know it's gotta be good! So let me tell you all about it!
“The Walking Dead” is the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse; it follows a small group of survivors traveling across the US in search of a new home away from the hordes of the undead (also known as walkers). The plot is mainly focused on how humans would react to a post-apocalyptic world and the way the struggling human race could survive.
The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a sheriff's deputy in a small Georgia town before the zombie outbreak began. As their situation grows more treacherous, the groups overwhelming urge to survive begins to push them towards the brink of insanity. It seems that at every turn the group is faced with unbearable horrors that come with having the dead walk again.
Deputy Rick Grimes was shot by criminals in a standoff on the highway and goes into a coma. An undetermined amount of time later he wakes up the hospital alone. When he ventures out of his room and into the streets he finds a post-apocalyptic world overrun with the walking dead. He soon discovers that his wife Lori and son Carl are missing.
Rick arms himself with a bag of guns and after hearing a rumor from a survivor, makes the dangerous journey to Atlanta. He was told that the CDC has set up a safe zone in the city and he believes his family may be hiding there. During his journey Rick sees the devastation left by the "walkers" and upon reaching Atlanta, realizes that the city is no longer safe.
A few miles outside of the city, Rick's wife and son have been hiding with a group of survivors led by Shane Walsh, Rick's former colleague and best friend. They have established a camp with a small group of survivors from the county. After being rescued from Atlanta by the group and being reunited with Lori and Carl, Rick assumes a command position with Shane and takes responsibility for not only the survival of his own family, but also for the rest of the group.
Part of Rick's group heads back to Atlanta to recover weapons that Rick left behind, but they run into some unfriendly survivors. Rick eventually eases the tension and they return back to camp only to discover that it has been overrun by walkers and their people are dying. Hoping to find medical treatment for an injured member, the remainder of the group decide to return to Atlanta to seek help from the CDC and to see if there is in fact a quarantined safe place them for them to go to.
Yeahh!! I love zombies! And I'm almost positive I love this series too!!! When I first saw the commercials for this show last year I was ecstatic. Zombies are my thing and to hear that there was going to be a TV series about them, wow!! I was so excited to watch and I was literally counting down the days until the first episode on October 31, 2010.
And how fitting that the first episode aired on Halloween night? I am a huge fan of this show. I watched it religiously every Sunday when it came on and waited a long year for the second season to start. The second season started Sunday night @ 9 and so far it looks really promising. To prove just how promising it is, the first episode of this series had a total of 7.3 million viewers! WOW!
And I had no idea that the show is actually based on a comic book series! Bad ass!!! The special effects in this show are incredible. The zombies look amazing and actually really scary. I remember in the first episode there was this zombie torso crawling across the grass really slowly, and just seeing that was like wow, that's amazing! And it actually made me a little emo. I mean, you had this zombie torso with no legs just using it's arms to crawl across the grass, and it still wanted to fuck anyone up that came near it. That is until Rick Grimes put it out of its misery, if you want to call it that.
The plot isn't anything new, I've seen it a hundred times in other movies. And I didn't really like the beginning of the first episode. I saw that exact scene in 28 days later. You know, guy wakes up in hospital and realizes that the world has ended and has no idea what’s going on..blah blah. It could have been more original, but other than that, I have no complaints.
The show has solid acting, a great plot and like I said, the zombies look so real and so damn creepy! I will most definitely be watching the second season just as religiously as the first. And the best part? This season has twice as many episodes as the first!! Oh yeahh! I recommend “The Walking Dead” to any horror or zombie fans out there. You will not be disappointed. Trust me. I'm a professional. And while you're here peeping my stuff, how about you go on and see what Zane's got going on?? Thanks for stopping by Dead End Horror.
